How To Buy A Diamond

If the question, how to buy a diamond is on your mind. Then this blog should be pretty helpful to you. When shopping for a loose diamond, diamond engagement ring, certified diamond or any other diamond there are a few things you should know. Diamonds come in all different shapes and sizes. You must first choose what shape and size you want. The easiest way to compare price is using online retailers like bluenile.com and diamond.com. This comes in handy when you are in your local jeweler looking at rings. It is super important to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. When buying diamonds you will run into all types of certificates and appraisals, only a few are important. Diamonds come with certificates to guarantee the quality. However, as sad as it sounds not all certificates accurately grade diamonds. G.I.A. or the Gemological Institute Of America is the most widely used and trustworthy grading report (certificate) available. If you buy a diamond that has a certificate from G.IA. that is like law of the land. However, if you buy a diamond that has an appraisal written buy a Graduate Gemologist from the G.I.A., that is not the same thing. Although the appraisal is written by someone that is trained by the GIA, it is not a certificate and may not be held to the same standard as the G.I.A. certifcate. E.G.L. certificates are not held to the same standard as G.I.A. certificates. An example of this is a G vs2 diamond with a G.I.A. may be called an E vs1 from E.G.L. Diamonds with E.G.L are much less valuable because of the credibility of the certificate. We understand that the information in this blog is hard to take in. So please, if you have questions please call and ask for Richard or Lee and we will try to answer all the question. There are many other companies that offer certificates, most are bogus. Two other highly regarded laboratories are A.G.L. and H.R.D. There are many other things to keep in mind when buying a diamond engagement ring or a diamond for any other purpose. If you come to our store and look at a 3ct H VS1 round with a certificate from G.I.A and then go on bluenile.com to compare price. Say for argument purposes ours is 45k. You go on bluenile.com and find one for 38k. What you don't know is that the one on bluenile.com has strong blue flourescence . Why does that matter? Strong blue flourescence makes a diamond look hazy. You don't want to save a few bucks to buy a diamond that looks hazy do you? Not when your spending good money. The bottom line is that you want to do your homework. Learn about diamonds. What makes a diamond sparkle? What stops it from sparkling? Like I said before, if you have questions about diamonds. Please call us. You don't have to buy a diamond from us to ask us a question about them, but we would hope you would check out what we have in stock.
